1. he's totally right. and empathy is (perhaps scarily) multifaceted - in that it all depends to whom it's extended and why. i've been thinking about it a lot since the oil spill in the gulf of mexico. on one hand, loads of lawmakers responded politically in terms of empathy with the people of the gulf coast (fishermen, restaurateurs, etc.) whose livelihoods are threatened - ensuring BP pays them for their losses. then on the other side, some republican politicians were apologising to BP for being forced to put that much aside - calling it a 'shakedown' and unfair: empathy for the corporation under fire? it all hinges on who you identify with. but at the core of it, yeah. empathy.

2. this was freaking excellent. (and i want to know where they get top-notch markers like them ones!)
