The Belfast Cycle City campaign is about to be launched, with a 2020 vision of Belfast as one of the top ten cycling cities in the UK.
We are calling on Belfast City Councillors to -
* create a 10% cycling target for 2020
* increase funding for cycling to £15 per person per year
* create a ten year Cycling Strategy for Belfast from 2010 to 2020
We have just released our report with input from Sustrans and Northern Ireland Cycling Initiative which details the aims further. The report can be downloaded from our website http://belfastcyclecity.org.uk
Show support by signing our online petition to councillors on the website, under the “support” tab.
Also, if you are on facebook, search for “Belfast Cycle City”.
But the most exciting news is that the campaign will be officially launched on Sunday 2nd August.
We are holding a mass cycle on that day, assembling at 11am, riding from Belfast City Hall to Comber and returning, with an opportunity to picnic in Comber. The ride will be less than 20 miles and involve safe cycle paths and the Comber Greenway.
The plan is to have a brief PR event outside Belfast City Hall with a number of local councillors invited, so even if you can’t make the cycle, come along to the City Hall at 11am to show your support.
Please spread the word of this campaign, this is our best opportunity to promote cycling in Belfast there has ever been!
Hope to see you there.
