This summer, Belfast Friends of the Earth are launching a new campaign, “Belfast Cycle City”, which will promote a new report produced by Andrew McMurray, an FoE member, Sustrans and the Northern Ireland Cycling Initiative.. The report and campaign will set ambitious cycling targets for the year 2020, and ask for a new cycling strategy in Belfast and increased resource commitments from the government to meet these. The focus will be to lobby Belfast City Councillors and the Department for Regional Development, urging them to address the issues being raised.
A number of events are already being planned for the campaign. Next Wednesday (24th June) there will be an informal meeting in Common Grounds cafe at 8pm, and finishing around 9pm. It will be an opportunity to meet others who are interested in the campaign, discuss the report and objectives for the city and find out how you can become more involved.
The meeting is open to all, so feel welcome to bring along any family and friends who might have an interest.
